Welcoming La Trobe University to McEwen Reserve on Sunday, the Southerners ground out a 2-2 draw to get on the board after last week's narrow loss.
With notable names out for the clash, Shepparton South president Gino Cirillo couldn't help but feel as though it was a point gained, rather than two dropped.
“I thought it was a team effort from the girls, the defence was strong all day,” Cirillo said.
“La Trobe were a good young side and they had Holly Boldiston, who has played NPL.
“I think a draw is probably a fair result — it was a much better performance than the week before.”
Missing sister combo Alicia and Mikayla Rowan, South found goals through gun Elisha Antunov.
Antonuv scored essentially straight from the whistle and led the Southerners into the sheds a goal to the good.
La Trobe found a reply soon after the break, before Antonuv poked home South's second to restore the lead.
However, a final twist to the tale was in store for South as La Trobe found a leveller to split the points between the sides.
● At Howley Oval, Shepparton United lent its full weight on host Tatura to emerge a 7-1 victor.
Maria Villani and Rezwana Baqiri signalled their ambitions in regard to the golden boot race, both netting twice in the first half to send the Blues four up at the half.
Villani went on to grab her hat-trick, while Baqiri went one further, finishing with four as both sit level on seven goals after two games.
But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Ibises, as Tara Bray found the side's first goal of the competition, albeit a consolatory one.
