The Swans were matched by a gallant Violet Town in the first half, only to skip away after the main break to claim a 50-37 win.
After going down in the first round to Nagambie, the round-two result gifts the Swans their maiden win of the season ahead of their upcoming bye next weekend.
Avenel co-coach Bree D'Andrea was relieved that her side was able to walk away from Violet Town Recreation Reserve with the four points.
“The first half was very even. Violet Town were super competitive across the four quarters,” she said.
“We were lucky in the end. But it was just great to get the win and get on the board.”
Violet Town got ahead in the first term through solid defending from Emma Warnock and great passing from midcourter Heidi Vranek.
The home side led the Swans 14-12 at the first break, before D'Andrea's charges levelled the scores at the main break.
The co-coach highlighted what areas let her side down in the first half of play, before addressing how they turned it around.
“It took us a while to find our groove,” D'Andrea said.
“We turned it over a lot and we just weren't settled enough. But after the main break I thought we were bit more disciplined and we were more settled.
“We are still quite raw at the moment.”
Recruit Kara Clydesdale shone in her first match for the Swans, while attacking trio Nicole Lord, Tegan Sidebottom and Georgia Velt all contributed strongly.
“I thought Kara was really consistent all match in wing defence,” D'Andrea said.
“She has just relocated to the area and she filled in for us. Hopefully we can get her to make a few more appearances this year.”
