The Gators won 82-54 in front of their home fans and did most of the damage in the second and third quarters, where they outscored Coburg 49-23.
Coach Josh Waight was pleased with the output of his players.
“We were rapt,” Waight said.
“It was a really good win, the boys played really well.
“They were thrilled to get the first win and hopefully we can build on that going forward.”
Key players for the Gators were Nick Dodd, who nailed 20 points, Dylan Wayman, 19, Sam Beks, 14, and Matt Bartlett hit 11.
Beks also recorded five rebounds and five assists and Bartlett fell two assists short of a double-double and contributed four rebounds as well.
Waight said the team's ability to stop Coburg's strengths went a long way to the result.
“We were able to stop their three-point shooting, which is one of their strengths, early on and we were able to get it up the other end and score some easy baskets,” he said.
“We made passes to open players and made good shots, which was fantastic.”
After having a week off over the Easter weekend, the Gators will make up for lost time by playing a double-header this weekend.
On April 17, the eighth-placed team travels to Collingwood (10th) to play a Saturday night fixture, before it hosts Southern Peninsula Sharks (ninth) at home the following afternoon.
