Nick Dodd's 22 points was not enough for the Gators as they went down by six points (62-68), despite winning three quarters to one.
Coach Josh Waight said the third quarter, which they lost 14 to 25, was the difference in the contest.
“To win three quarters and lose the match, it hurts,” Waight said.
“The third quarter particularly hurt us on Saturday night.”
Waight said Dodd's efforts at both ends of the court was a standout.
“That was his best game of the year by far,” he said.
“He shot well and rebounded well, which is fantastic to see, and is an area we want to get better at.”
Other major scorers were Sam Beks, who registered 11 points with a field goal percentage of 45.5, while Matt Bartlett (10 points, 27.7 field goal percentage) and Thomas Frame (10 points) were the other double-figure scorers.
Waight said the team was not doing the basics well enough as it slumped to a 0-3 record to start the season.
“At the moment, we are struggling to put the ball in the ring,” he said.
“We're struggling to find easy baskets and rebounding is something we need to work on moving forward.
“We have harped on about it, but we need to work on it.”
The team will have an extra week to improve its craft as the competition takes a week off for Easter.
When they return to the court the Gators will host Coburg, which has also started the season winless.
