The addition of JD comes after his cousin and current Lindsay Park co-trainer Tom Dabernig opted to depart the family-run stable.
Dabernig will step away and form his own training business after more than 25 years under the Lindsay Park banner.
The decision from Dabernig — which will come into effect at the end of the current season — has opened the door for JD to step into the world of horse training on August 1.
JD, 25, will follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Colin, father David, and late uncle Peter in training under the Lindsay Park banner.
Speaking to RSN's Racing Pulse on Wednesday, JD said he was destined to join the family tradition.
“Absolutely, I've been groomed for the role for the last three years and it has been something in the pipeline,” he said.
“We did think we had a bit longer, but I'm looking forward to the new season.”
JD shut down any speculation of a rift causing Dabernig's departure.
“Family is very important to us and it was done in a very amicable way and both parties are very happy,” he said.
Dabernig's exit from Lindsay Park stunned the racing fraternity.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Dabernig said he was looking forward to starting a solo career.
“I am excited that after 25 years of service at Lindsay Park I have decided to pursue an independent training career,” Dabernig said.
“It is a decision that I have not taken lightly, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunities that the Hayes family have afforded me, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all the Hayes family.”
JD Hayes, a former playing coach for Euroa, explained how the training partnership would look once the new season begins.
“It will be very much business as usual. Ben will slowly step into what Tom is doing and my role will change quite a little bit,” he said.
“I will be more in the hut watching work and being in touch with the owners.”
With JD joining forces with Ben, it paves the way for their other sibling and AFL footballer Will, to form a dynamic trio later down the line.
“Will's keen as mustard with the horses, but he's currently pursuing a football career with the Western Bulldogs,” JD said.
“But I think his football is going all right at the moment, so he might have to wait a few more seasons.”
