The Golfers reigned supreme in top tier Goulburn Valley Bowls Division midweek pennant action for the third season in a row, defeating Shepparton Park Tan by 20 shots in this year's decider.
With the entire top four in the division one competition finishing on nine wins this campaign, the flag was anyone's for the taking — highlighted by the Parkers comfortably pushing aside the Golfers by 18 shots in the qualifying final.
But a fortnight later Golf had engineered a 38-shot turnaround to win 75-55 on the biggest day of the season.
“They beat us in the second semi, so I think it was probably good for us to get beat because we realised that we had a game on our hands,” Golf's John Foley said.
“To come back today and do what we did just shows that with the three in a row that we've had we're a pretty good unit.”
Foley's rink — with Graeme Waddell skipping, Warren Snow as second and Jenny Waddell leading — drew 20-all against Park's Di Hands.
Robbie Betson, Kris Wright, Les Norton and Ian McCarten managed a 26-20 triumph, but it was Graeme Myers, John Dagger, Richard Warburton and Jock Hastie who did the most damage in a 29-15 result.
“We've got a lot of depth and the division two only just got beat, the club's going very good and hopefully we've got another two (premierships) coming up on Saturday,” Foley said.
“We've got a very, very good club out there and everybody sticks together.”
Edna Harling herself was on hand to help present the trophy back to the Golfers, with the 106-year-old legend drawing warm applause when it was announced she was in attendance.
