Garrick, a three-a-side specialist, was named among 12 of the nation’s elite female hoopers to attend a four-day training camp at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence from March 7-11.
The real test, however, comes in two months’ time.
Lying ahead of Garrick and co is the Tokyo Olympic Qualifying Tournament set to take place in Graz, Austria from May 26-30.
If successful, Australia will make history as one of eight teams to qualify for 3x3 basketball's debut at the Olympic Games.
Eagerly awaiting the upcoming four-day camp, Australian head coach David Biwer spoke about preparation as the world's biggest sporting event looms closer.
“I’m really excited about the upcoming camp and the potential that it brings. We have some fantastic new faces coming into the squad, alongside our world class and proven 3x3 players,” he said.
“This month’s camp will be the first in a series of camps we have planned ahead of May’s Olympic qualifying tournament.
“Having these camps at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport will provide the perfect high-performance environment to prepare for the challenges ahead.”
Garrick's selection caps a whirlwind 12 months for the star guard.
Early in 2020, the two-time WNBL winner sustained an ankle injury — which she has since recovered from — before launching her own coaching program.
With a FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup gold medal already adorning her mantlepiece, Garrick will now look to go one further and power the green and gold to Olympic silverware later this year.
