Established last month, Shepparton City Soccer Club becomes the newest organisation to partake in the region’s thriving junior round ball competition.
According to association president Peter Hill, the burgeoning interest for soccer expressed by the region’s youth, paired with the formation of Greater Shepparton Secondary College, brought about a decision.
The result, of which, was to expand.
“Basically the goal of Shepparton City Soccer Club is to be an all-inclusive club which encompasses all the schools across the Goulburn Valley — from areas out to Euroa, Violet Town and places like that,” Hill said.
“The fees are based on the school structure, but by keeping them low it means all kids are able to play.”
Shepparton City SC player fees have been priced at $120 for the entire season in a bid to entice kids from all walks of life into the beautiful game.
By becoming the latest side to enter the competition, City joins a 25-strong list of club and school-based teams entered into the association.
It’s an impressive presence; Hill himself knows all too well of the competition’s scope.
Overseeing the masses of kids tearing around fields on Saturday mornings has become the usual — and now he is glad to welcome City into the fray to share in the fun.
“Currently City have the open girls and boys sides as well as two under-15 teams. Next year our goal is to field under-6s, 7s, 8s, 10s and 12s,” he said.
“It is great to have a new entity in the field, it just creates an added opportunity for juniors in the region.
“We think it is the way forward for the competition.”
Shepparton City SC’s current base is at McEwen Reserve, training on Wednesday nights.
Donning the black, white, and blue, City will jump straight into action when the season begins.
The association recently announced its 2021 campaign would commence on Saturday, April 24 for all age groups, running for 15 weeks.
A three-week finals series will then succeed round-robin action.
With less than two months remaining until the first whistle, Hill had a parting message for the keen kids looking for a new home.
“Anyone interested in playing for the club can head down to McEwen on Wednesdays after 4.30pm.”
