The Greater Shepparton product, who celebrated his birthday at the weekend, out-qualified his Team SYDNEY teammate Fabian Coulthard in both races at the Mt Panorama 500 event.
Jacobson — who joined Team SYDNEY before the start of the season — used his knowledge of the Triple Eight Race Engineering-built machinery to his advantage.
Jacobson qualified 19th on the grid ahead of the first race, before settling for 20th before the second race — two spots ahead of Coulthard.
It was an impressive showing from Jacobson against his more experienced teammate.
Coulthard has 13 race wins to his name and crossed to Team SYDNEY after he raced for Dick Johnson Racing (as DJR Team Penske) during its three championships in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
Unfortunately for Jacobson, he was unable to continue his rich qualifying form into the races.
After working his way up to eighth spot in the first race — with 16 laps to go — a forced pit stop pushed the speed demon back down the grid to 17th.
Shortly after, an issue with his Holden Commodore whip forced Jacobson to not complete the opening race.
Jacobson worked hard to make up ground in race two, but rounded out the 40-lap race in 20th.
With the opening round of action completed, Jacobson is placed 23rd in the drivers’ Championship — 67 points behind Coulthard.
● Jacobson returns to action on March 20-21 when the Supercars Championship lands at Sandown.
