Rhianon Norton won a silver medal in the elite women's 500m time trial and the elite women's 3km individual pursuit at the Victorian Elite State Championships.
By finishing second, she also improved her personal best time in both events, finishing in a time of 3:42 in the individual pursuit, which was six seconds better than her previous best.
While in the time trial, Norton was able to remove 1.5 seconds off her PB in a time of 38.4.
Despite the fact she has qualified for nationals in the elite category, Norton will travel to Brisbane to compete in the Masters nationals instead.
“I would qualify for the nationals in the elite, but I have chosen to focus on the nationals Masters 35 to 39 age bracket,” Norton said.
“I'm looking to break the record in the 2000m individual pursuit in my age group.
“That will be my focus going up there.”
Norton's husband Brad will also attempt to break records at the same competition in the same age group.
“My husband is looking to break his own records in the individual pursuit and one kilometre time trial,” she said.
“The current records were gained at altitude and he is looking to break them at sea level.”
Fellow club member Jack Edwards competed in four events at the recent Melbourne Cup on Wheels, bringing home four gold medals.
The following weekend, February 27 and 28, Edwards also competed in the Austral Wheelrace and the Bell Helmets Track Open, finishing with two seconds, three thirds, one fourth and a sixth.
This was in addition to his victory in the under-15 Victorian Keirin Championship.
The results are even more impressive when factoring in Edwards has only recently returned to cycling from a 12-month enforced lay-off from a knee injury.
Edwards wished to acknowledge the work of Steve Fairless and the Nortons for the training they had done with him in the lead up to his recent success.
The cycling club's public relations officer Nadine Edwards said it was great to see members out and about competing on the road and track and having success along the way.
“With 2020 being a non-event with cycling events cancelled, it is great to be out there again and the riders are enjoying the competitive side of cycling,” she said.
“The club is always super proud of our members whether they win, lose or draw."
