The Greater Shepparton product has landed at Team Sydney for the upcoming 2021 Supercars Championship which kicks off this weekend at Bathurst.
Jacobson, who turns 29 on Sunday, joined his new team after making the cross from Matt Stone Racing last year — where he clinched a career best seventh finish.
Speaking during the week ahead of the season opener, Jacobson said he was aiming to make his mark.
“I knew how hard it was to get here (into Supercars) and I'm incredibly grateful to stay at the top level for the next two years,” Jacobson said.
“My results improved last year and I'm looking forward to doing the same this season.
“I just want to be getting those top-10 results and become a seasoned campaigner who consistently performs well.”
And helping him transform into a competitive beast is his newest teammate Fabian Coulthard.
The experienced driver has 13 career race wins and was involved with Dick Johnson Racing (as DJR Team Penske) during its three championships in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
“Fabian has got that experience of winning races and performing well and it's a great opportunity for me to learn from him,” Jacobson said.
“But he also has plenty of experience with stuff off the track. Like building and growing your profile as a driver.
“Sometimes it's not all about speed.”
However, speed is the main focus for the championship's first round, the Mt Panorama 500.
Drivers will compete in two 250km-long sprint races, compared to the famous Bathurst 1000.
Jacobson, a former Super2 champion, is one of 11 drivers who has experience in zipping around Bathurst in 250km races — from his time in the second-tier championship.
“This will be my fourth time racing at Bathurst in Supercars, but these races are very similar to Super2 events (held here),” Jacobson said.
“So maybe for the first time ever, I might have more experience than some of the top drivers on the grid.
“There's only one pit stop in these sprint races and normally when we are at Bathurst for the 1000, you have multiple stops, so you really need to time it right.
“But like always, practice will get us going on Friday and hopefully we have a great weekend to start the season.”
● The Mt Panorama 500 will be broadcast live on Seven, Foxtel and available to stream on Kayo.
