Unfortunately for the district products, their individual brilliance was not enough to get their teams over the line.
In the season-opener, Shepparton's Grace Egan starred for Carlton in its six-point loss to Collingwood.
The talented midfielder finished the match with 13 disposals and five tackles as she was named second in the Blues’ list of better players.
Meanwhile, Mansfield's Bonnie Toogood registered an outstanding performance in attack in the Western Bulldogs’ loss to St Kilda.
Toogood, a former state representative netballer, slotted two goals as the Bulldogs suffered a narrow 8.3 (51) to 6.6 (42) defeat.
The full-forward collected nine touches and one mark in a performance that put her in the side's best players.
It was a strong return to the field for Toogood, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last campaign.
And Mooroopna's Millie Brown flew the flag for the Geelong in its heavy defeat to North Melbourne.
The youngster battled hard in defence as North Melbourne controlled the contest from start to finish in its blistering 11.5 (75) to 1.3 (9) win.
Brown finished the match with nine disposals and four marks to be named second best for the Cats.
Kyabram's Julia Crockett-Grills (eight disposals, two tackles) and Benalla's Becky Webster (eight, two) worked relentlessly in the loss.
However, it wasn't all dour results for the region's star talents.
Shepparton's Angela Foley enjoyed a convincing 8.8 (56) to 2.6 (18) win over West Coast Eagles.
Foley, Adelaide's vice-captain, managed five touches, two marks and a tackle in the stirring win.
Looking ahead to this weekend's matches, Foley's Crows will be back in action against Fremantle on Sunday.
Egan and Toogood will clash heads when Carlton takes on Western Bulldogs, while Brown, Webster and Crockett-Grills will head north to square off against Brisbane Lions.
