AusCycling revealed on Wednesday the dates and locations for next year's junior and masters championships.
Shepparton is locked in to host the Junior Road Championships on the weekend of September 24-26.
Greater Shepparton City Council chief executive Peter Harriott said he could not wait to watch Australia's next cycling stars in action.
“We are excited to welcome our nation’s upcoming cycling sensations to Greater Shepparton in September next year,” Harriott said.
“In the past we’ve seen young athletes such as Caleb Ewan win national junior titles in our region, and now he’s conquering the world winning stages at the Tour De France.
“We’re looking forward to our community and visitors to be able to see future stars in action.”
The announcement comes after the region welcomed the Herald Sun Jayco Tour earlier this year.
“Greater Shepparton has hosted a number of cycling events over the years and it's wonderful to continue our strong partnership with AusCycling to host the junior road nationals,” Harriott said.
“Together we will prepare to deliver a safe event that will adhere with any state and federal COVID-19 guidelines.
“Cycling has grown over the months during the COVID-19 restrictions and we hope that visitors coming to experience the junior road cycling will also enjoy our many cycling paths that wind through the region taking in our rivers, bushland and our landscapes while they are here.
“Hosting this prestigious event we look forward to welcoming lots of new and returning visitors to our region and we hope they take the opportunity to explore more of what our great region has to offer during their time with us.
But before Australia's best pack their lycra and bikes for the national championships, Shepparton will welcome a host of district and national stars in December.
After not taking part in 2019, Shepparton Cycling Club will host two days of the State Christmas Track Carnival.
The track will host the event's opening day on December 26, followed by the fourth and final day on December 29.
Shepparton Cycling Club publicity officer Nadine Edwards said the club was looking forward to being involved again after not taking part last year.
“We're very excited to be involved again and to host a state event,” Edwards said.
“It's exciting for the city of Shepparton and region as well to be a part of the state series. We didn't host last year, but we are really pleased to be involved again and hopefully it's a really big carnival.
“And this kicks off the racing calendar, so hopefully it's a bumper few days. We were worried and a bit nervous when the dates were allocated to us.
“It was the question ‘would COVID-19 impact the event?’ but we are really confident that we will have good numbers attend.
“It could go either way really, but hopefully people have an itch to get out there after a year of no events.”
Across the two days, Shepparton will host seven feature races.
The women's and men's under-15 and under-17 State Elimination Championships, the Bill Daish Memorial Derby, the elimination Godfrey Family Omnium and the Tucker Maskell Memorial Championship.
Entries are now open and close on December 13.
