Despite Victoria recording no coronavirus cases in the past week, current COVID-19 restrictions don't permit crowds to attend race meetings in the state.
In a letter to members earlier this week, Tatura Racing Club manager Jon Dight confirmed the track would not welcome punters and spectators to the 2020 event.
“Unfortunately, this year there will be no public spectators including members allowed on course on Tatura Cup day,” the letter read.
“The club is disappointed that crowds will not be able to attend our final race day for the season, however, the recent government announcements have not given rise to mass gatherings or crowds at race meetings.
“We thank you for your continued support and understanding during these difficult times.”
The time-honoured cup, scheduled for November 21, is a highlight of Tatura's racing calendar and is a bonanza event for the town.
Dight said in the letter that racing officials were working together with the Victorian Government to crunch out a date for punters to return trackside.
“We understand that the racing industry is working very closely with the Andrews Government on a return to crowds at racecourses, but this return is likely to be closer to the end of 2020 or early 2021,” it read.
“Despite COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns, during 2020 we have managed as an industry to keep racing which has meant that the club has still received vital industry funds and we are on track to make a small profit this year.
“Our continued support from our sponsors has been incredible as well and we thank them for that support.”
The letter also said the club would hold its annual general meeting in January.
