Adelaide
Jordon Butts (Shepparton) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: Two games, averaged 7.5 disposals and 2.5 marks a game.
Contract status: Signed a new two-year deal mid-way through 2019 after impressing in the SANFL. After breaking into the AFL side for two games this year, his third season on the list seems like moving year for the former Bear.
Carlton
Brodie Kemp (Echuca) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: No games, recovering from an ACL tear suffered in 2019.
Contract status: Heading into the second year of his rookie deal after being picked number 17 at last year's draft. Former Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni said Kemp remained destined for big things. "Then you’ve got someone like Brodie Kemp who we took with an early pick last year coming off a knee injury,” he said. "He’s a really exciting player. Obviously, he didn’t play at all this year, the club have opted to have patience with him.”
Caleb Marchbank (Benalla) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: No games, after a knee injury sidelined him for most of the season.
Contract status: Has plenty of job security after he signed a two-year contract extension in September. While a key member of the Blues’ back six, he has managed just 48 games in six seasons at GWS and Carlton, and would love a clear run with injury in 2021.
Collingwood
Flynn Appleby (Cohuna) — out of contract
2020 season: One game, nine disposals and a goal.
Contract status: After two games in two years, and with list sizes to be cut, Appleby would appear to be in at least a degree of trouble in terms of securing a new contract at Collingwood.
Jamie Elliott (Euroa) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 18 games, 10 goals, 12.6 disposals a game.
Contract status: Far more settled this off-season after being made to wait until October last year for a two-year extension. After an impressive season with more midfield time, he heads to the second year of that deal and will be an unrestricted free agent after it.
Steele Sidebottom (Tallygaroopna) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: Nine games, five goals, 23.7 disposals a game.
Contract status: Sidebottom's season was interrupted, but when he was on the field he remained perhaps the Magpies’ best midfielder. Will head into a 13th season at Collingwood, and will be an unrestricted free agent at its end.
Fremantle
David Mundy (Seymour) — out of contract
2020 season: 16 games, 18.1 disposals a game.
Contract status: Mundy will be at Fremantle for a 17th season after another incredible year, but remains waiting on a contract as the club sorts out potential trade deals for Connor Blakely and Jesse Hogan, per AFL.com.au
Lachie Schultz (Moama) — out of contract
2020 season: 17 games, 12 goals.
Contract status: Like Mundy, he will almost certainly be retained by the Dockers once they sort contracts for other priorities. After a stellar season in which he played every game, Fremantle letting him leave would be a major shock.
Geelong
Esava Ratugolea (Cobram) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 12 games, five goals.
Contract status: Has another year to run, although after being in and out of the Cats’ side — not to mention them potentially acquiring Jeremy Cameron — there might not be too many games on offer in 2021. AFL.com.au's Mitch Cleary floated him as a player GWS may ask for in return for Cameron, but ultimately expects him to stay at the Cattery.
Tom Hawkins (Finley) — out of contract
2020 season: 21 games, 49 goals.
Contract status: The reigning Coleman medallist has reportedly all but agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Cats, although does still technically remain an unrestricted free agent.
Gold Coast
Will Brodie (Shepparton) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: One game, 14 disposals.
Contract status: Has two years to run on his deal, but after being starved of opportunities in the past two seasons, he certainly appears a player clubs will inquire about. The Suns have publicly acknowledged they will listen to offers for him.
Jarrod Harbrow (Mooroopna) — out of contract
2020 season: 13 games, 12.4 disposals a game.
Contract status: AFL.com.au reported Harbrow would play on with the Suns, likely to take the club games record holder as a rookie.
Nick Holman (Kyabram) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 10 games, 10.1 disposals a game.
Contract status: Has another year to run on the two-year deal he signed at the end of last season, meaning he will again be part of an exciting, young Gold Coast side.
GWS
Lachie Ash (Invergordon) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 12 games, 11.3 disposals a game.
Contract status: Couldn't have asked for too much more from Ash in his first season. With a number of young Giants leaving the club each off-season, surely they try and look after the teenager with a long-term extension as soon as possible.
Sam Reid (Echuca) — out of contract
2020 season: Three games, 5.7 disposals a game.
Contract status: Reid is a restricted free agent, although turning 31, you would imagine only the Giants would consider him for next year.
Hawthorn
Daniel Howe (Rennie) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: Five games, 10.6 disposals a game.
Contract status: Recently signed a one-year extension, so will remain with the Hawks, although will hope for more than five games next season.
James Cousins (Mansfield) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: Five games, 19.5 disposals a game.
Contract status: Only managed five games, but averaged a career high in disposals when on the field. Expect a big 2021 in a contract year.
Jarman Impey (Shepparton) — contracted until end of 2023
2020 season: Five games, two goals, 9.4 disposals a game.
Contract status: Signed a lengthy extension last off-season, and rewarded the Hawks’ faith by returning from an ACL injury and looking the goods.
Harry Morrison (Benalla) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 11 games, 14.2 disposals a game.
Contract status: A consistent year from Morrison recently earned him a one-year contract extension.
Melbourne
Clayton Oliver (Mooroopna) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 17 games, 25 disposals a game.
Contract status: He's contracted for next season, but rumours of interest — particularly from Carlton — have been rampant. Melbourne has been strong in denying this, with chairman Glen Bartlett leading the way. "Clarry will be playing for Melbourne,” he said recently. "We love Clayton Oliver.”
Marty Hore (Leitchville) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: No games, after battling a severe quad injury
Contract status: Despite missing the year with injury, was recently handed a new one-year deal. At 24, the future remains bright for one of 2019's breakout talents.
North Melbourne
Shaun Atley (Rochester) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 17 games, 15.8 disposals a game.
Contract status: The Kangaroos had a genuine clean-out this off-season with 11 delistings, but 28-year-old Atley survives with another year to run on his deal.
Jy Simpkin (Mooroopna) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: 17 games, six goals, 20.2 disposals a game
Contract status: In a woeful year for North Melbourne, Simpkin was a clear shining light. Has two years to go on his current deal.
Port Adelaide
Tom Rockliff (Benalla) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 16 games, 22.8 disposals a game
Contract status: Heading into the final season of the four-year deal he signed when departing Brisbane for the Power.
Ollie Wines (Echuca) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: 17 disposals, 21.8 disposals a game
Contract status: Back to his best this season, and while his name is brought up most off-seasons, expect him to remain at Port Adelaide. Port coach Ken Hinkley addressed annual interest from Essendon, stating: "If I’m being fair, the Bombers have asked about Ollie Wines for eight years. We haven’t said yes yet, so we’re not likely to say yes today.”
Tom Clurey — (contracted until end of 2023)
2020 season: 18 games, 9.7 disposals a game
Contract status: Signed a four-year deal last May, meaning his job is more than secure in Port Adelaide.
Todd Marshall (Deniliquin) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: 14 games, 11 goals.
Contract status: Clearly highly-rated at Port Adelaide, and has two years to go on his contract.
Joe Atley (delisted)
2020 season: No games.
Contract status: Delisted by Port after four games in four seasons.
West Coast
Tom Cole (Seymour) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: 15 games, 10.5 disposals a game.
Contract status: Once again a mainstay in a talented Eagles line-up. Will spend at least two more years in Perth.
Western Bulldogs
Will Hayes (Euroa) — out of contract
2020 season: Two games, 10 disposals a game
Contract status: Not an ideal sign he's had to wait this long without being offered a new deal, particularly after playing just two games this season and with list sizes to be cut.
Alex Keath (Kialla) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: 18 games, 9.9 disposals a game.
Contract status: Signed a three-year deal when joining the Bulldogs, and certainly was consistent in his first.
Sam Lloyd (Deniliquin) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: Eight games, seven goals, 8.6 disposals a game.
Contract status: Added a year to his deal in February, so will spend next year at the Kennel.
Josh Schache (Seymour) — contracted until end of 2022
2020 season: Two games, two goals.
Contract status: Signed a two-year extension at the beginning of the year, although he only played twice this year.
Laitham Vandermeer (Mooroopna) — contracted until end of 2021
2020 season: 12 games, nine goals, 9.8 disposals a game.
Contract status: Earned a contract extension last off-season without playing a game, and showed exactly why the Dogs took care of him with a huge season.
