After a delay to the season, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the club will welcome participants back to McEwen Reserve on Saturday morning.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming back our existing and new members this Saturday,” Zanelli said.
“I've had plenty of people message me and ask when little athletics is starting and everyone was really happy to hear we will start this weekend.
“Little athletics is for ages five to 15 and we cover many different events. This weekend we will be conducting sprints, discus, hurdles, high jump, shot put and many more.
“Fingers crossed we can get some nice weather and the kids can get out there on the track.”
The centre welcomes new faces and this year, anyone interested in joining for the first time, has the benefit of two free come-and-try sessions.
Zanelli called on anyone wishing to join to do so and join in on the fun.
“We have had quite a few come-and-try registrations which is great,” she said.
“People who want to give little little athletics a try can get two free sessions. It gives them the benefit of trying something new out.
“You can register up to be a member anytime during the season as well. So if you forget you can always join next week or the week after.”
Following Little Athletics Victoria's guidelines, the centre has implemented strict COVID-19 protocols for the upcoming summer.
And although this season may look a little different to previous seasons, Zanelli said the important thing was ensuring everyone was safe when competing.
“We have got LAVic guidelines and rules to follow and we will be making sure that all those are adhered to this weekend,” she said.
“There will be groups of 10 and all the equipment must be sanitised after each use.
“We want everyone to know that they will be safe.”
