Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Sunday that from 11.59 pm on Tuesday, October 27, indoor gyms and fitness spaces will be able to open for up to 20 people.
There is a maximum of 10 people per space and a density of one person per eight square metres.
Gyms have been closed since the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic swept across Victoria in late July.
Initially slated to return on November 1, the State Government has also announced the return of non-contact indoor sport for people aged 18 years or younger.
Non-contact means a sport capable of being played with a distance of 1.5 m.
This includes sports like badminton and table tennis, while potentially opening the door for socially distanced netball training to be held indoors.
Along with sport, non-contact indoor recreational activities — such as dance classes and aerobics — can commence for people under the age of 18.
Spectators are limited to one parent or guardian when the child requires supervision for indoor sport and recreational activities.
And indoor pools, off the back of the reopening of outdoor pools, can now be used by up to 20 people at once.
The limit on patrons allowed in outdoor pools remains at 50.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Premier said regional Victorians should take pride in their efforts to help slow the spread of coronavirus.
“Regional Victorians should be proud of this success. Everyone should be proud of this success,” the statement read.
“Because soon, it will belong to our whole state.”
