Shepparton Junior Tennis Association revealed on Thursday that the opening round of the 2020-21 season would kick-off as planned this weekend.
Secretary Heather Lees said the association was monitoring the public health situation closely.
“We haven't called off this weekend's opening round,” she said.
“We are holding on to see what information comes out from the health department and Victorian Government.
“But at this stage it's all systems go.”
The association has eight divisions for the upcoming season, stretching from A-grade to D2 doubles.
Lees said the association — which has more than 60 sides entered this season — was prepared if the situation deteriorated.
“All clubs have strict COVID-19 guidelines in place as per the recommendation from Tennis Victoria,” she said.
“If anything drastic or a major outbreak or if the situation changes, we have a system in place that allows us to call it off quickly.
“It would be similar to having a rest weekend due to bad weather, we would notify all clubs as soon as possible.”
Up north along the border, the Murray Valley Cricket Association’s Twenty20 season gets under way this weekend.
The competition kicks off on Saturday, with Cobram, Katamatite, Barooga, Cobram-Yarroweyah United, Tocumwal and Deniliquin Rhinos all strapping on their pads over the next three weeks.
The MVCA had previously announced its NSW clubs would play Twenty20 games from October 10, however, changes to border restrictions have allowed for each outfit to pull on the whites.
“It has been a busy period, but borders opening up slightly has helped with getting the season started,” association president Anthony Holmes said.
“Obviously we have some changes to how the season will look this year, but it’s exciting to be able to look ahead to this weekend.
“There is rain forecast for this weekend, actually, so fingers crossed we can get some action under way.”
Nathalia has decided to sit out the upcoming Twenty20 competition to organise its side, while Katunga has chosen to miss the short-form matches as it decides whether to make the leap to Premier division cricket or stay in the lower grade after winning the division one trophy last season.
