The 25-year-old will run out for the Melbourne Vixens in the Super Netball grand final against the West Coast Fever at Nissan Arena.
Since McDonald joined the Vixens as a training partner 10 months ago, the talented midcourter has proven that the sky's the limit.
The Lions’ A-grade co-coach has been a revelation in her debut season.
From making her debut earlier this season, to then becoming a valuable member of a side that finished atop of the ladder — McDonald is showcasing her potential on the national stage.
The public support from co-captain Liz Watson last month and head coach Simone McKinnis after the semi-final win, is evidence of McDonald's incredible growth this season.
“I've loved all the opportunities and experiences that have come my way this year,” McDonald said.
“It's been nice to have consecutive appearances on the court in recent weeks. Simone has just wanted us to play our role and I feel like I've done that each time.
“And to have that sort of feedback is really encouraging.
“Being able to share the court with both Liz and Kate (Moloney) is incredible, they've taken me under their wing this year and have taught me a lot.”
And although a Super Netball final is unchartered waters for not only McDonald, but the Vixens — who are yet to win a Super Netball title — grand finals seem to be her forte.
McDonald claimed two premierships in 2019, one with her Australian Netball League team Victorian Fury and the other with Seymour in Goulburn Valley League.
The rising star understands the task that awaits her and her teammates on Sunday.
“It's very exciting to be preparing for this weekend's grand final,” McDonald said.
“It hasn't really sunk in yet and I'm not sure when it will, but I'm focused on getting the job done this weekend.
“Everyone is trying to keep the week and preparation as normal as possible, but obviously there are underlying nerves.
“At the end of the day it's another game of netball, it's just, there are those added pressures that come into play. That pressure you put on yourself to do well and succeed.”
McDonald said the Vixens would have extra motivation when they take to the floor at Nissan Arena.
“Fever have got some strong form behind them, we know it will take a big team effort to get the win,” she said.
“But we want to do it for Simone, Caitlin (Thwaites) and Tegan (Philip), that emotion will play a part no doubt.
“And fingers crossed we can do it for Victoria and give all our supporters back home something to cheer for this weekend.”
