Cricket Shepparton revealed last week its intentions to start two 100-ball competitions — similar to that of the English County cricket's “The Hundred” format.
The association hopes to gain enough interest for two competitions, an open-age and over-40s, which would be played during the week at night.
If the competitions get the green light, it's expected they would kick-off in December and finish in February.
Cricket Shepparton president David D'Elia said the association had already received interest since last week's announcement.
“We've already had a number of people and clubs express their interests,” D'Elia said.
“Hopefully we get a few more and get it up and running. It's a terrific opportunity for people who haven't got a lot of time on their hands to have a hit with their mates and have a bit of fun.
“We just want to have a go and see if it gains traction, there is nothing to lose.”
It was revealed that the 100-ball competitions would consist of five-ball overs and 50 deliveries would be bowled from both ends.
And games would be played on hard wickets to help make it easier for match preparation.
Cricket Shepparton has advised a full set of rules would be revealed if the competitions get up and running.
“I've had general conversation with people who say they ‘wouldn't mind playing cricket’ but they just can't commit to weekend games,” D'Elia said.
“It will be quick, you won't need to prepare wickets and it will be on every second week.
“There is scope to have it on any night of the week too, it doesn't have to be Wednesday. For example, if clubs agree to have it on a Thursday night, they can have teammates watch on after training and make it a fun night.
“But even if clubs can't find enough players for a team, then there will be a chance for them to merge with another club and they can field a side together.”
