The Swans and Wombats kicked off the Kyabram District League season in round one on April 4, with the former claiming a 15-point win.
But neither outfit has crossed paths with the other since, making for an element of the unknown when they take to Longwood Recreation Reserve on Saturday in an elimination final.
The Swans had a day out against Violet Town last week — with coach Kasey Duncan booting 11 goals alongside Angus Durnan (five) and Harry McLean (four) — but the 167-point drubbing could be seen as not ideal preparation for a knockout battle.
The Wombats on the other hand tested their mettle against minor premier Tallygaroopna, and despite losing by 28 points will have learnt plenty from the outing.
"It could go either way," Duncan told the Seymour Telegraph.
"Their bodies could be more banged up, but they’ve had the experience of a challenge.
"We’re going into the game with that challenge in mind.
"They are a good, quick and young side.
"We’ll shut their run out of the back line and get on top in the midfield."
Michael Morgan and Sam Durnan could return for the Swans this week, while Andrew Green is likely to shake off an injury concern of his own and line up once more.
Adam Vick, Tom Davies, Brad Orr and Besim Besim starred for Lancaster last time out.
