A woman who had a gel blaster that resembled a handgun in her bedside drawer has been fined $750.
Kelly Lee Allston, 44, of Shepparton, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to possessing an imitation firearm, possessing cannabis and failing to appear on bail.
Prosecutor Charles Moffatt told the court police found a black Python-branded gel blaster that resembled a handgun in a drawer beside Allston’s bed when they searched her house on October 12 last year.
They also found about four grams of cannabis in a drawer, as well as two cattle prods in the house.
Allston told police at the time she had “confiscated” the gel blaster from two boys, Mr Moffatt said.
She also told police the cannabis helped her sleep and “eased her restless legs”.
Allston also failed to appear in court on February 21.
Allston’s solicitor Anthony Coote said the gel blasters were readily available to buy in Queensland but banned in Victoria.
“My instructions are she took it off some kids and forgot about it,” Mr Coote said.
He also said his client had not come to court in February because “she was scared of coming to court and working out what she needed to do”.
