Victoria Police believe Wednesday’s seizure of thousands of cannabis plants was one of the largest in Victoria’s history.
Shepparton police Divisional Tasking Unit conducted a search warrant about 9am at an address on Waugh Rd, Toolamba, on Wednesday, February 9.
Victoria Police Eastern Division 3 Inspector Ashley Mason said they found more than 8000 plants worth “millions”.
“As far as hydroponically-grown cannabis I would say it’s probably one of the largest seizures in Victorian history,” Insp Mason said.
Five men were arrested at the property in relation to the investigation, Insp Mason said.
The men have not been charged by police and are assisting with inquiries.
They remained in police custody, Insp Mason said.
The search was part of an ongoing investigation by the Divisional Tasking Unit into the illicit cultivation of drugs.
Insp Mason said it was expected to take a number of days to process the scene and the investigation was ongoing.
“It’s currently being processed by Victoria Police members and botanists,” he said.
“It’s anticipated that it will take a fair period of time.”
Police urge anyone with information to contact Shepparton Police Station on 5820 5777 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
