Shania McEntee, 27, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to criminal damage and contravening an adjourned undertaking.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Kerrie Thomson told the court McEntee and a friend got into an argument while walking on Fryers St, Shepparton, at 4.58am on August 12, 2023, and McEntee threw herself against the window of the Optus store, smashing it.
The incident was seen by those monitoring the Safer City CCTV cameras in the area and police arrived shortly afterwards.
McEntee was not arrested at the time due to her intoxication, but was arrested and interviewed two months later where she made full admissions to the incident, Sen Constable Thomson said.
More than $6550 damage was done to the window in the incident.
The court also heard that McEntee breached an adjourned undertaking she had received from the court from an earlier incident as she had not paid the $100 to the court fund she was required to pay.
She was given the undertaking for driving as a learner driver without a licensed driver accompanying her in February 2023.
McEntee’s defence solicitor John McNamara told the court his client had been “under the influence of alcohol” on the night she broke the window and had “made an incredibly stupid decision”.
He said she was now pregnant, and not drinking alcohol, and asked that she be given an adjourned undertaking.
“She wants to start her life with her baby right,” he said.
Magistrate Simon Zebrowski, however, fined her $300 and did not record a conviction.
“I’ll give you the tip, nothing good happens after midnight. And nothing good happens after 4am,” he said to McEntee.
