According to police, it’s understood a van and police vehicle collided on the Murray Valley Highway, at the Stokes Rd intersection, about 12pm on Tuesday, February 15.
The driver and sole occupant of the van, a yet to be formally identified man, sadly died at the scene.
The two male police officers, a first constable and detective sergeant, have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said one of the men, in his 30s, was flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, and the other man, in his 60s, was airlifted to Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton.
They both suffered upper body injuries, the spokesperson said.
According to police, there is no indication the officers were in pursuit of the van and it’s believed they were on patrol as part of their duties.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will visit the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Motorists are advised diversions are in place and the scene will remain closed for some time while investigators examine the area.
