Firefighters were called to three separate fires along the roadside in Stanhope late on Tuesday, February 18.
Stanhope CFA was called to the three fires within a couple of kilometres of each other between 11.30pm and midnight.
Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Andrew Costello said two of the fires were on McEwen Rd and one on the Midland Hwy, with all three burning grass next to the roadway.
The largest of the fires burnt a section of grass about 200m long by the width of the culvert on the side of the road.
Det Sen Constable Costello said at this stage the cause of the fires was unknown.
