Brayden Kevin Hockey, 33, of Tatura, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to speeding by 45km/h or more and drug driving.
Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Braden Wright told the court police clocked Hockey driving at 154km/h in a 100km/h zone on Ferguson Rd at Tatura on May 23, 2024.
He also tested positive to methamphetamines in a drug test.
Hockey told police at the time he was driving so fast because he was “running late for a coffee”.
Hockey’s defence solicitor Anthony Coote said Hockey’s wife was a paramedic who had attended vehicle crashes in the region for work.
The court was also told Hockey had a young family.
Mr Coote pointed the magistrate to a letter from Hockey’s wife about a diagnosis of ADHD he had received since the offence and what he was now doing about it.
The court also heard Hockey had no criminal history.
Magistrate Olivia Trumble fined Hocking $400 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months, backdated to September 2024 when his licence was taken off him by police.
“Unfortunately your conduct on this occasion has had dramatic consequences for your family,” Ms Trumble said.
However, she said it was positive his behaviour had improved since being diagnosed with ADHD and that he was taking medication for it.
