A man was allegedly assaulted over golf balls he was collecting, according to police.
Numurkah police First Constable Suk Bhattarai said the 62-year-old Numurkah man was collecting golf balls near the Numurkah golf course when the alleged assault occurred about 11pm on Sunday, February 9.
He said four males alleged the man was stealing the golf balls and assaulted him.
The man was allegedly punched in the head and shoulders and then dragged along the ground, First Constable Bhattarai said.
The keys to the man’s car, which was parked nearby at the Numurkah Showgrounds, were also allegedly stolen.
The police officer said the man got a scrape on the side of his face from where he was allegedly dragged, but refused help from ambulance officers.
The golf balls were ones players had hit on the golf course but were unable to find, First Constable Bhattarai said.
