“We woke up to our dogs barking, which can be normal, however, a few minutes later their barking changed and my husband said, ‘I’d better check the cameras’,” Bec White said.
As her husband, Lucas, made his way down the hallway, he opened a CCTV app on his phone to view the footage streaming from the family’s cameras surrounding their Mitta Crt home.
Shocked to see someone in the couple’s car in the driveway, he went to the laundry, which adjoins the home’s garage, to scare the stranger away.
When Mr White opened the door, he saw a shadow move about a metre from him.
He yelled, slammed the door shut and locked it before he heard a vehicle drive off.
“It was really scary,” Mrs White said.
“We then called the police and it wasn’t until we looked at the cameras that we realised it was four men and one of them had a hammer or a crowbar with him.”
While their unwelcome visitors didn’t get away with anything, they have created unease for the family, which includes young children.
“We are just happy that they didn’t get into the house,” Mrs White said.
“We have a few little worries, but we’re locking up everything and anything.
“I’m sure as the nights go on that we will start to feel at ease.”
The Whites passed their CCTV footage to police.
Investigations are ongoing.
