Police are investigating the cause of a house fire at Sobraon St, Shepparton, early Tuesday morning, February 8.
Shepparton Fire and Rescue Victoria senior station officer Paul McKendrick said the station was notified of the fire at 1.39am.
Four FRV vehicles and about 15 firefighters attended the scene to extinguish the blaze, which was declared under control at 1.52am.
Mr McKendrick said the back of the property suffered extensive damage from flames, and other areas were badly damaged by the smoke and heat of the fire.
Shepparton Detective Senior Constable Nathan Berryman said residents were not at the property at the time of the fire.
As of 10am, experts were on their way from Melbourne to determine the cause of the blaze, Det Sen Constable Berryman said.
Witness Jessica Jenkins said she woke at about 1.45am to the house already alight.
“It wasn’t up in flames but it was on fire,” she said.
More to come.
