Damien Ashley Kerridge, 42, of Mooroopna, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to failing to comply with registered sex offender reporting obligations.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Ethan Hamill said Kerridge was late to report to police when he stopped working in February 2024.
Kerridge told police he didn’t know he had to report stopping employment, and thought he only had to report when starting a new job.
He is required to comply with sex offender reporting obligations for 15 years from July 26, 2023.
Kerridge’s defence counsel said this was his client’s first breach and was likely to be his last.
He told the court Kerridge hadn’t been on the registry for very long when the breach happened, but he’d had no breaches since.
Magistrate Amina Bhai fined Kerridge $150.
She said if the breach had been Kerridge gaining new employment without reporting it, the penalty would have been different.
