Shepparton highway patrol Acting Sergeant Murray Moser said the 62-year-old Melbourne man was allegedly doing 140km/h in a 100km/h zone on Mooroopna-Murchison Rd on the afternoon of Saturday, April 16.
He also allegedly had a suspended driver’s licence.
The man’s car was impounded for 30 days and he will face Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on charges of speeding and driving while suspended.
His car was not the only one impounded by police on the Easter weekend.
Another traveller had his vehicle impounded on Saturday afternoon after he was caught allegedly driving on a suspended licence on McCarten Rd, Tallygaroopna.
The Melbourne man, 41, was towing a caravan when his vehicle was impounded.
He has been charged with driving while suspended and will face Shepparton Magistrates’ Court.
His vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Sgt Moser said Shepparton highway patrol officers also picked up four low-range drink drivers and four drug drivers during the long weekend.
He said at least three of the drink drivers were as a result of a “big night” drinking alcohol the night before.
“People need to think about how much they’ve had to drink before driving the next day,” Sgt Moser said.
“The message to get out there is it (alcohol) can still be in your system the next morning.”
Sgt Moser said the four drug drivers caught was a problem.
He warned drugs such as amphetamines, methamphetamines and MDMA will still be detected in a person’s system a week after taking them.
“Don’t take drugs,” he said.
“The sheer presence of any drug will have you having to explain yourself to us.”
