Seventy-two offences were detected during a three-month road safety operation in Greater Shepparton.
Forty-one drivers were also either fined or received a summons to attend court.
Operation Reduce was conducted in partnership between the Transport Accident Commission and police between July and October.
Speeding was the most common offence detected, with other offences detected including ones where the motorist was not licensed to be driving – with their licences expired or cancelled, or where they were disqualified from driving, unlicensed, or were a learner driver who was not accompanied by a supervising driver.
Shepparton Highway Patrol was funded by TAC to conduct additional shifts dedicated to targeting speeding on high-risk rural roads in the area.
Shepparton Highway Patrol Sergeant Janne Kennedy is appealing to motorists to slow down, take their time and plan their trips so they do not need to speed.
“Anecdotally, many motorists said they were not even aware of the speed zone they were in when they were detected,” Sgt Kennedy said.
“As the weather gets warmer and the end of the year is fast approaching, Shepparton Highway Patrol is pleading with our community to comply with the road rules to keep themselves, family, friends and all other road users safe.
“Please slow down.”
