STORY: DYLAN BROWN
It’s well known that colours can play a role in your mood and feelings, especially if you spend a lot of time indoors.
If you are looking for a brighter and lighter mood this spring here are some colours to choose from.
WHITE
An easy and safe way to brighten up a room is to go all white.
If you don’t want to go all white, just add airier elements like sheer white curtains and white linens.
Adding wooden furniture is a nice way to contrast the white background and if you want to change it in the future you aren’t limited due to the white backdrop.
SKY BLUE
Make it feel like you’re on holidays using pale blues and mixing it with wooden furniture — it’ll give a beach sort of vibe.
You don’t have to do something as drastic as painting the walls, you can add items such chairs or a rug.
Rugs can take up a large amount of space so it’s an interesting way to enhance a room.
Pillows, soft throw blankets or art are also cheaper and temporary ways to brighten up a space.
TULIP RED
If your colour scheme is mostly crisp white, there’s nothing better than adding the freshness of red into the room to bring it to life.
Red is a timeless and passionate colour so it makes sense to ease it into a room with items such as throw blankets, pillows, flowers and art.
MARIGOLD
While you’d use brighter yellows in rooms you want to be awake in, darker yellows like marigold can glamorise a room while keeping a calm vibe.
You’d use this in rooms such as living spaces, bedrooms and bathrooms.
Matching this with a strong neutral colour like a grey or black is perfectly balanced so you get the right amount of brightness with the right amount of calmness.
TERRACOTTA
Orange isn’t usually in many people’s colour palettes, but terracotta may be a bit easier to add as it is far from bright and vivid like most shades of orange.
It is best styled alongside brown, cream and ivory.
SAGE GREEN
Nothing says ‘spring’ better than a lighter green.
It has the feeling of fresh and organic, and can be used in any kind of space.
PINK
Pink is known as a delicate colour and closely related to spring.
Incorporate different shades of pink in rooms to create a vibrant aesthetic during the season.
Pastel pinks, rosewood, blush and baby pink are shades you should look to use as they are usually associated with flowers and sweets.
