Regarding the current carbon crisis, I would like to shine a light on a little-reported problem.
This being the fate of athletes who are at the rear in long-distance races.
These races cover distances of up to 42km.
The back-running athletes are forced to perform in a bubble of expelled carbon dioxide from those in front.
It must be detrimental to their performance.
I would like to suggest a rule change whereby the runner at the rear moves to the front every 50m or so.
The sharing of the clear air would ensure a rousing finish.
Alternatively, the runners could run shoulder to shoulder for the duration.
This would give them all fresh air.
Also, everyone would receive a medal, which I feel would align with current thinking.
