The wine course diploma (Country News, August 16) is great for the region and the path to far better wine knowledge and talent for the industry that is so important for the region and the state.
Our wine regions are exceptional and Rutherglen is such an important part of Australia's wine reputation.
Rutherglen needs to be treasured by the region far more and featured on wine lists all around — it is a tourism drawcard and local support from clubs, pubs, restaurants and the arts centres is a must.
Rutherglen should also be valued by turf clubs in the region with far more sponsored races to promote the wine region far and wide — a Rutherglen Cup Day should be in place.
Let’s hope the wine course includes some marketing as well.
There is not enough local acknowledgement of Rutherglen in the region. It is the reason many of us have retired here from the city — for the delightful lifestyle it provides in dining and events and the gourmet scene.
The love of wine is so much fun and has so much potential to grow more — maybe a Stanley orchard will look at making Calvados to be part of the growing spirit styles.
