Zoe stars as kooky character Josie in Echuca-Moama Theatre Company’s (EMTC) production of A Better You, which opens at Radcliffe’s Restaurant on July 21.
This is the 24-year-old tax accountant’s first show with EMTC.
“I got involved to meet more people locally and had wanted to do something performance-wise since high school, but just hadn't looked into it properly,” she said.
“Then saw the ad in the paper for the audition night and thought I might as well give it a go.”
Zoe’s character Josie lives with her Mum and is described as having an inventive imagination, a breast fixation and hidden murky depth.
“I’m absolutely loving being in the play, which is so funny,” she said.
“Everyone at EMTC is so friendly and welcoming and it’s been really fun going to rehearsals.”
A Better You, a comedy by Mark C Bourne, tells the story of a group of women who meet at a community hall each week.
Their usual leader is away, so she has organised a representative of “A Better You” self-help program to do a presentation.
Unfortunately for the already stressed-out guest speaker, the gossipy women have their own problems and are very easily distracted.
Things do not go according to plan for the self-help guru, who is teetering on the edge of a nervous breakdown, and in the women’s misguided efforts to help, things go from bad to worse.
With less than three weeks until the play opens, tickets are selling like hotcakes.
“More than 40 per cent of tickets have been sold which is just fantastic,” co-director Tricia Deakin said.
“Audiences are excited that community theatre has returned and they are in for a real treat with this play.”
There will be five performances from July 21 to 24.
Platters will be provided as part of the ticket price of $49 at the three evening and two matinee performances.
