The Youth Club has had a Pre School Fun group for the past year. Youth Club president Michael Maskell said after seeing the popularity of the fun group they decided to make a space for younger kids.
“Normally families with babies don’t get facilities, and watching the play of kids that have got to the age of running in the space, we’re always mindful of the safety of babies and young children,” he said.
The Youth Club has been around for 70 years serving the community for the benefit and good of families — children and adults alike.
Mr Maskell thanked Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum for working to secure funding for the Youth Club that was essential in starting the Baby Play Corner. The club will invite the retiring MP to officially unveil the new service.
“This little baby corner that we’ve now got, we’re utilising a room that has never been used for anything other than storage before and made it into a very useful and safe little room,” Mr Maskell said.
“The doors lead out into the basketball court-sized hall that we have for the pre-schoolers to have a big space to run and jump and play.”
And speaking of basketball, the Youth club is facilitating access to basketball for Kyabram kids, with the youngest being four years old.
Basketball sessions used to be run at the Youth Club, but numbers have grown so much they’ve moved to the Kyabram Sports and Entertainment Centre.
The Youth Club is now doing its best to re-affiliate Kyabram with Basketball Victoria, Mr Maskell said.
"It’s all about just having building blocks to give back, to regrow in the community, things that we see are needed,“ he said.
The Youth Club has established affiliation with Table Tennis Victoria and Badminton Victoria, bringing these sports back to Kyabram after their original associations and organisations died out from lack of support.
“What we're doing is giving opportunity for kids, young people and adults alike and families to a nice, comfortable, safe and inclusive environment,” Mr Maskell said.
