The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is working with local councils and Alpine Resorts Victoria to implement changes to household waste and recycling services.
Households will have access to separate services for general rubbish, mixed recycling, glass recycling, food organics and garden organics.
This includes the new purple-lid bin for glass recycling, which the Greater Shepparton City Council introduced to households on Monday, June 3.
The goal of a new four-stream system is to make it easier for people to sort materials at home, create consistency across the state and reduce the risk of contamination of other recyclables.
Victorians and local councils have been invited to have their say and provide feedback on the proposed regulations, service standard and Regulatory Impact Statement, which can all be found at ‘Setting the standard for better recycling at home | Engage Victoria’.
Feedback can be provided by completing a survey found on the above website by Wednesday, August 14.
This feedback will be used to inform any changes to the proposed regulations and service standards before they are made.
