As part of its Safer Communities Project aimed at building the community’s resilience to emergencies, Mitchell Shire Council is working in conjunction with Hilldene CFA to host the event.
Not only will the event allow members of the community to learn more about what brigades do for the region, but inspections of private firefighting vehicles will also be offered.
These inspections are a part of CFA’s recognition that private equipment can be an essential part of a community’s response to fire in many parts of Victoria.
“In recent seasons within the Hilldene CFA area, the significant impact private firefighting appliances can have on initial attack and assistance to the CFA was shown on multiple occasions when deliberately lit grassfires were started in our area,” Hilldne Fire Brigade 4th Lieutenant and brigade community safety co-ordinator Jake Williamson said.
“Without the assistance of these private appliances, it may have been a different story.
“These locals want to help to protect their properties, their neighbours and their communities, so we are always willing to work alongside them because we all want the same result.”
The open day will be filled with free coffee and morning tea, as well as a fire protection trailer display.
Attendees will also have the chance to win a Davey GX160 Honda firefighting pump.
The open day will be held on Saturday, February 22, from 8.30am to 11.30am.
