The 59th annual Seymour Working Sheepdog Trials is set to attract competitors from across Victoria and NSW.
Competitors and their dogs will work together to control and direct three sheep around a course and through a series of obstacles.
“This may sound like a simple task,” Seymour Working Sheepdogs Club secretary Colin Davidson said.
“But three sheep behave as individuals, not as a mob, and the sight of sheep scattering in all directions is a common one.”
Participants must complete the course in 15 minutes, and will start with a full score of 100 points, from which deductions will be made for errors and infractions.
“It is a long day for many, mustering sheep in the dark, transporting them to the event, managing the yards throughout the day and returning them to their homes,” Mr Davidson said.
Despite the work that goes into the event, Mr Davidson said it was a popular attraction on the rural calendar, as it provided those working on the land with a chance to get together with their peers and socialise.
Catering will be provided for both competitors and the public by the team of diligent workers who work to make the day happen.
The free event will commence at 8am on each of the three days it runs.
