The Jerilderie Working Dog Auction will take place for its twentieth year on Saturday at the Jerilderie Racecourse on Wilson Rd.
Working dog demonstrations begin at 8.30am, with the auction beginning at 1.30pm.
For anyone interested, entry is a gold coin donation to Lions Club Jerilderie.
The Jerilderie Working Dog Auction is proudly a 100 per cent volunteer organisation, with all proceeds raised going to the Apex Club of Jerilderie.
Entry forms for dogs are closed, but everyone is more than welcome to come down and have a look.
One coordinator of the Jerilderie working dogs auction, Warwick Doolan said, “The event is for working dog enthusiasts and prospective purchasers of working dogs.”
“It is a fully catered event with catering from Finley High School, as well as a licensed bar and coffee van, and comfortable undercover seating for viewers.”
“There will be dogs of all ages and levels of training.”
“People can see raw pups with natural talent all the way up to high quality trained and experienced working dogs.”
“Everything about the day is about charity.”
“This is the twentieth auction, and it has been going for 20 years since the first one in 2005.”
“In that time it has seen a substantial amount raised, I would guess in the vicinity of half a million dollars.”
Another big part of the day is that the auction is conducted by representatives of Elders Rural Services that have been appointed by the Jerilderie Apex Club Inc. committee, Mr Doolan said.
“Elders volunteers conduct the auction on our behalf, which is commission free, and they all do so voluntarily.
“It is a really good service to the community, and it is well-supported by Elders representatives from all over including Forbes, Ballarat, Cootamundra, Hay, Deniliquin and, of course, Finley and Jerilderie.
“It is exceptionally well-supported by Elders who go over and above with their volunteer support.
“Dogs are sold Australia-wide, particularly through the addition of the AuctionsPlus system which has expanded the process to allow people to watch the auction live and bid, with ourselves facilitating the transport following any purchase.”
“All dogs on auction are put through their paces in a demonstration beforehand, so purchasers can find a dog that suits their style.”
“Our hope is that the dogs become more than workers. On Saturday, people will get a chance to bond with and create a connection with the dogs.”
“We encourage as much interaction as we can before purchase, so everyone can all get along, and we put emphasis on finding good connections between the dogs and prospective owners, making sure the dogs live a good life.”
