But if the weather has to do its thing this season, we might as well embrace it with activities that can only be accessed in the colder months, such as ice skating.
Winter Wonderland will return to Strathbogie Shire in August, with organisers hoping to replicate the event’s success in 2022.
This year, there’s been a new site added to the locations of the inflatable-edged ice-skating rinks — Jubilee Park in Avenel — along with a return to Jacobson’s Outlook, Nagambie, and the old Gambles Nursery site on Binney St, Euroa.
The Winter Wonderland experience not only features the ice-skating rinks — with skates, helmets, penguin trolleys for smaller children and expert staff to assist with fitting skates and providing instruction — but patrons can also experience Extreme Cloud Snowboarding, drink hot chocolate, snap a pic in a photo booth and enjoy live music.
“This initiative is a key part of our community flood-recovery efforts, using community events to build resilience and solidarity within the community,” Strathbogie Shire Council administrator Peter Stephenson said.
“These free events are made possible thanks to funding from the Victorian and Australian governments through the Community Recovery Hub grant.
“Local chambers and business owners have warmly welcomed the event’s return, recognising its positive impact on the community and local economy.”
The Winter Wonderland will be held at:
Jacobsons Outlook, High St, Nagambie on Saturday, August 3, from 11am to 7pm, and Sunday, August 4, from 11am to 4pm.
Jubilee Park, Avenel on Saturday, August 10, from 11am to 7pm, and Sunday, August 11, from 11am to 4pm.
Binney St, Euroa on Saturday, August 24, from 11am to 7pm, and Sunday, August 25, from 11am to 4pm.
