Deciding the future of the nation’s leadership is hungry work, so the News cold-called some local polling sites ahead of the big day to see what voters can expect to find on offer.
Amid talk of changing trends to include egg and bacon rolls or vegan options, we can confirm the traditional democracy sausage in bread is alive and well — you can find these at Shepparton East Primary School and Mooroopna Primary School.
Kialla Central Primary School stood out with plenty on offer, on top of the classic sausage sizzle there will be cups of warm soup and the parents’ club will put on a cake stall.
Principal Debbie Humphries said election day was a great opportunity for past members of the school community to see how the school had changed, and was a boost to fundraising efforts after some tough years with COVID-19.
You may need to get in early though, Ms Humphries said the refreshments would be available from 8am to 1.30pm or until sold out — which has happened in previous years.
Some polling sites won’t be offering any election day tucker, but we won’t hold it against them — the main item on the menu this Saturday is democracy.
