Soaring heating bills, driving home in the black of night and chipping away at icicles on windscreens — winter is tough, even more so for Shepparton’s retail and hospitality industries.

Greater Shepparton City Council place manager Bonnie McIntosh said she was working with local businesses in the CBD to activate the economy and create opportunities for them to thrive and connect with the community.
One opportunity being the Winter City Market.
To celebrate the end of the cold season and generate a blaze of customers for local businesses, the market returns to the redeveloped Maude St precinct.
This Friday and Saturday, special deals and promotions will be on offer, encouraging community members and visitors to shop local.
In addition, there’ll be music, family entertainment and activities, and food choices aplenty from restaurants and cafés located in the CBD.
Ms McIntosh said the annual markets had always been a community favourite, especially for families.
“We are looking forward to visitors and locals taking advantage of the special offers and enjoying a day out with their families,” she said.
“A range of kids’ activities, including face painting, balloon creations and boutique crafts stalls will be here for everyone to enjoy over the weekend.”
The Winter City Market will be held in the Maude St precinct on Friday from 10am to 5pm and on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

Maude St will be closed to traffic during the event between Fryers St and High St.
