The We Listen Suicide Loss Support Group invites the community to light a candle in memory of loved ones during its annual Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday, December 17.
Hosted by We Listen founder Steve ‘Neffy’ Neff, this event provides a space for collective mourning, reflection and remembrance.
“It’s a nice quiet time to reflect on all those loved family, friends and community members who have died during the year or years previously,” Neffy said.
“The vigil serves as a place for people to offer emotional support to one another, whether through quiet solidarity or sharing stories of how the person impacted their lives.”
Attendees will receive battery-operated candles, symbolising hope and solidarity, as they gather in a peaceful atmosphere to honour those they have lost.
“Some may also wish to bring photos, artwork or other symbols to help keep the memory of the deceased alive,” Neffy said.
The vigil will feature a prayer led by Fr Simon Robinson from St Alban’s Church Mooroopna, alongside short speeches and reflections from community members.
“Family, friends or community leaders might share personal reflections to remember the people lost and allow the community to express their feelings,” Neffy said.
“Grief and loss impact us all, and this is an opportunity to express grief in a safe, supportive environment.”
The We Listen Candlelight Vigil is on Tuesday, December 17, at 8pm at Ferrari Park, Mooroopna.
