Recently, the couple were sitting watching the birds when they spotted something move.
“We've got the bird bath beside the camellia bush,” Lyn said.
“It's right there at the path and then there's the verandah.
“We'd been watching the birds because they've been going from the bath to the tree.
“Then Norm called me over and said, take a look at this.
“I looked and looked, and it was very difficult to see.
“It was about the same thickness as one of the branches, but it was a snake.
“The only thing I could see at first was that he was shiny, and then he started to move”
The couple watched intrigued as it slithered down.
“The next thing we knew, he was across the path and up on the verandah and into the hungry caterpillar that Norm made years ago,” Lyn said.
She identified it as a black snake, but having lived in a rural area for many years, the couple were not phased by the encounter.
“That doesn't worry me,” Lyn said.
“I hear that there's snakes around, but we've lived in the country for years.”
Lyn said they don’t see too many snakes, but are aware they are around.
“It was quite a surprise to see him that up close to the house,” she said.
