With the recent amalgamation with McGuire College, Shepparton High School and Mooroopna Secondary College to form Greater Shepparton Secondary College, the club has dropped its former moniker and rebranded as the Greater Shepparton Secondary College Netball Club.
The decision was made during an annual meeting late last year, according to newly-appointed president Brent Matthews.
“We wanted to do something about making everybody understand we will be going ahead with Wanganui to the Greater Shepparton Secondary College Netball Club,” he said.
“Not much has changed except for the name, but there is a brand new committee with new members as well as a few original members.
“The structure will be the same, in that any student from any of the schools can sign up and play as long as they pay their fees.”
While Mooroopna Secondary College will continue to field sides under its football/netball club banner, GSSCNC offers an open-door policy for pupils wishing to join regardless of where they are enrolled.
While entrants will still funnel under the under-13, under-15, under-17 and open age group brackets, Brett hinted at the potential for extra sides to be thrown into the mix due to the influx of students caused by the merger.
With three separate divisions set to feature in each age group, a commitment has been made to leave no student out who wishes to take to the court in 2020.
“It will give everyone the chance to get in and have a go,” Matthews said.
“A lot of clubs have selection processes through try-outs which means a lot of kids haven’t been picked, if you come to our club you will definitely get a run.
“All players who turn up will be graded and put into teams and will then be entered into the competition as long as their VNA is paid.”
Registration nights will be on Monday and Wednesday, from 6.30 pm at Shepparton Netball Association club room.
Grading sessions will be held at the same location, starting on Monday, February 17 and February 24, from 5.30 pm to 7 pm for under-15s (Year 8 and 9); February 18 and February 25, from 5.30 pm to 7 pm for under-13s (Year 7s); and February 19 and February 27, from 6 pm to 7 pm for under-17s (Years 10, 11, 12 and open).
