In Victoria, the coverage has more than doubled, with 602 additional mobile sites, lifting its population coverage from 97 per cent to 99.6 per cent.
In the upper Goulburn Valley, there are now 17 mobile sites, compared to the previous three. The new population coverage for the area is now 93.8 per cent, compared to the previous 81.5 per cent.
Vodafone group executive, consumer, data and analytics Kieren Cooney said the network expansion would deliver a massive boost to mobile competition and provide more choice for mobile services in regional Australia.
“Vodafone is coming to thousands of towns and regional areas we have never been before,” he said.
“We want to shake up the mobile duopoly that has held back competition and bring the choice and great value of Vodafone’s award-winning network to the bush.”
The expansion was made possible through a network sharing deal between Vodafone and Optus in regional Australia.
Under this arrangement, Vodafone will access more than 2400 Optus mobile sites in regional areas to expand its network reach.
