The park, which is home to junior cricket in the summer and a popular recreation reserve, is currently fenced off.
Greater Shepparton City Council is undertaking the works, and council's director of infrastructure Phil Hoare said it was part of the council's 2021-22 capital works program.
“Victory Park is a very popular location for the community particularly given its proximity to the St Georges Rd shopping precinct, and the upgrade will significantly improve this community facility,” Mr Hoare said.
“The new system is fully automated, will provide increased irrigation coverage and more efficient watering across the oval.
“The system will also assist the grounds maintenance team in providing and maintaining quality playing surfaces.”
He said the upgrades and works were scheduled to be completed in time for the beginning of cricket season later this year.
●It remains unknown when the traffic lights on Goulburn Valley Hwy at the intersection with MacIntosh St, in front of the new Shepparton Art Museum, will be switched on.
The lights were installed as part of April road works along the train line, which also saw improvements for the entrance to the new SAM.
Mr Hoare said the council was working with V/Line and Regional Roads Victoria to coordinate required works.
“A timeline for their completion is not yet finalised but we are hoping to have this date shortly,” he said.
